Section 1, Organization:
This fund shall be known as the Memphis Fire Fighters Association Foundation Family Assistance Fund.
The objectives of this fund shall be to provide emergency family assistance to IAFF Local 1784 members and, in the event of the death of an ACTIVE IAFF Local 1784 member, financial assistance to the member's beneficiary. Any active or retired member in good standing of IAFF Local 1784 may be eligible for funds.
The Board of Directors of the Memphis Fire Fighters Association Foundation shall govern the Family Assistance Fund. A majority of board members shall constitute a quorum necessary for the transaction of business.
All money raised for this fund shall be invested in a bank or financial institution.
Section 2, Benefits:
In the event of the death of an ACTIVE member of IAFF Local 1784, $1,000 from this fund shall be given to the member's beneficiary as specified on the member's insurance beneficiary card. Such financial emergency must be a result of a long-term or catastrophic illness/injury, fire, flood, or other natural disaster which are out of the control of the applying member. Long-term illness is defined as a member off Leave Without Pay (LWOP) due to said illness/injury. Requests for financial assistance are limited to hardships arising from illness/injury of a member or as a result of a natural disaster upon a member's home.
Such request is subject to approval by a majority vote of the Board members present and voting. The maximum emergency financial assistance grant to any IAFF Local 1784 member shall be $1,000 within a 12 month period. In the event exceptional need is demonstrated by the requesting member, this limit may be exceeded by a maximum of $500 with the approval of eight members of the Board.
Any decision of the MFFA Foundation Board of Directors is final.
